Hi Jay, audio problems usually means your PC/Mac is not fast enough to transcode "on the fly" the video and audio tracks. Try a .mp4 file (less transcoding requirements) or a PC with a faster processor. I hope this help!
Hi, great app. I bought it. I have a question. Is it posible enable streaming from pc to android over http (or other type), because most of routers have problems with rtsp over nat and it is not possible streaming over net, only in home intranet. Any response please direct to my email vlc@alien21.com. thanks
Hi, I bought the app and it works fine for controlling the VLC server running on my PC, but when I press the Android button in the top left, it doesn't do anything at all.
iam having the same problem... when i browse the files on PC folder running W7 with my android (Lg P500h) all the video files apear with 2 extensions (the movie extension and a .WLX - ex: .MPG.WLX) When i start the movie, he say "play not started". But i can control the movie on PC as well, play, stop, fullscreen...
VLC Direct uses file extension to identify file format. If the filename ends with .WLX, VLC Direct wont be able to set the streaming parameters correctly.
Well, that is really strange... when you browse files in your VLC Media Player (not VLC Direct), you see all files with the .WLX extension appended to file filename? It seems your VLC Media Player is not working correctly
Hi, If you can browse files your connection between VLC Direct and VLC Media Player is ok. VLC Direct uses RTSP protocol which sometimes uses random udp ports for the video and audio channels. Try forwarding all ports from 1024 to 65535 in your router. Please note that some carries block a lot of ports and only open specific ports(smtp, pop, web, etc.). In that cases you will be able to browse file, but wont be able to stream though 3G/4G.
I have enabled the web interface on my laptop. Then, I try to connect from my HTC Thunderbolt mobile phone by using the Automatic Wizard. I always get the error "No VLC found in near network" I have tried to connect several times, but with no luck. Please advise. There is no troubleshooting guide.
if any of those tests doesnt show a response, it means there is something wrong (maybe a firewall in your pc is blocking the connection), and VLC Direct be able to connect to VLC
Mine connects fine, as i say i can view the video correctly from the Android to the PC just not the other way around. I'm not using a mobile network at all, just my home wifi.
Hi, I have seen some asus eee transformer with problems regarding its underlying streaming engine. If this is your problem, I have no solution yet. if this is not your problem, you can try disabling your pc firewall
Hi, quick question. I am tring VLC direct. Successfully installed and can access to VLC on my pc. I can remotely control vlc on pc from vlc direct on android but can not see the streaming from pc to android.
I am using; VLC 1.1.3 on win7/64 Android 3.1 on Galaxy tab 10.1
Hi, Android 3.1 works just fine. If your have your device using wifi and connected to the same router as the pc, then try disabling your pc firewall to see if it is blocking the streaming packets.
I have a feature request, can we please have a extra option box to add custom streaming options we can add (maybe called advance feature?) since I would like to tweak the streaming commands to VLC and tweak like TTL or other options.
Another tiny request is can we please have debug option like a log or a UI to "see" what actual VLC command is sent to VLC client so that we can debug (it is very hard to do that now)
utp, TTL option will be available in future versions. About the log, you can view the exact command sent to VLC Media Player in the VLC Media Player itself: tools->messages (with detail level at 2). If you need any other setting, please let me know.
hey, I purchased VLC Direct Pro and it streams fine with video and audio to my HTC Evo. When I try to stream to my android tablet, I can only hear sound and there is NO video. any ideas?
Hi Davis, sorry, I dont have a tablet like yours to check if it is a VLC Direct issue. Can you send me the VLC Media Player log? (tools->messages, set detail level at 2) So I can check if your VLC Media Player is having problems transcoding your video. pablobesada@gmail.com
I was just wondering if anyone else has come to you regarding streaming on the HTC Sensation? I seem to be getting a very jerky video that doesn't play smooth at all. It works fine on a HTC Incredible and my sisters HTC Desire HD.
I assume its just a bug with the new type of hardware the phone has or the new Sense UI 3.0 as no matter what option I use regarding bitrate or anything else makes it any better.
leloustic, what I see from the log you sent me, your VLC Media Player is not being able to connect to the phone. It is trying to connect to 192.168.0.15. Please check if this is your phone's ip address by pinging it from your Mac. If can know your phone's ip address SwiFTP FTP Server application.
Hi Pablo, thank you for your great work. I'm having trouble with VLC on Mac, which refuses to play my music or videos from my phone. The connection between my HTC Desire S and my Macbbok is ok (I've checked as you explained before). I can stream the files on my mac to the phone, but not in the other way. I let you see the error message from VLC, well, part of it :
dir=/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/http/.hosts main debug: restricted to ::1 main debug: restricted to 127.0.0.1

leloustic, what I see from the log you sent me, your VLC Media Player is not being able to connect to the phone. It is trying to connect to 192.168.0.15. Please check if this is your phone's ip address by pinging it from your Mac. If can know your phone's ip address SwiFTP FTP Server application.
ok, and when you start a streaming from android to mac, the VLC icon appears in the phone's notification bar? while the icon is in the notification bar -the streaming server is listening for connections-, try doing a telnet to 192.168.0.15, port 4444 and see if the connection by telnet can be established.
With target set as "VLC", when you tap on a video in "my videos" tab, a VLC Icon saying "Stream Server Running", should appear in your android notification bar.
Yes I know, it expects to receive a connection from VLC Media Player within a few seconds (about 4), if the connection doesnt enter, it stops the streaming server to save battery.
I've managed to play a few music tracks and 2 videos. The video lags (I've tried divx, 3gp, mp4 files, just the .avi works, but lags) and only few music tracks work...
You are always streaming from android to pc, dont you? Its strange, it seems like yo have some kind of network instability problem. Please note that if the videos are HD (720p or 1080p), you will have to have a really network speed to avoid any lagging during streaming. Standard videos should work just fine.
Hey have you considered adding a sinker screen for just controlling a movie already playing? Something with bigger buttons? An streaming/advanced mode and a controler mode would be great.
Also I have managed to do everything over 4g connection accept stream to my phone from my computer. VLC gives a really long error when I try it. Any suggestions?
Hi Pablo, Titles of mp3 songs sometimes contain a single quote, ' , like in " I'll be back , Beatles"', or an Ă« , f.i. in french songs. Or an exclamation mark ( ! ), also in a Beatles-song This causes an error on the targetsystem (running VLC), whether it's WindowsXPHome_sp3 NTFS filesystem or Puppy Linux Wary 5.12 with ext2 file system. I tested with both. Funny enough (remarkable is probably a better word): opening such a file on the targetsystem itself doesn't cause an opening error despite these odd characters in the songtitle. Let me say on forehand that I agree that these special characters shouldn't be in a filename, but heheh, song titles are what they are and don't care about proper file-naming. My tablet running your App reads the filenames correctly so I think it must go wrong on sending the titles from tablet to target PC. I hope you can find a fix for this problem. Renaming files on a large music library is no fun.
Then a suggestion: the human ear has a logarythmic response to sound pressure. The volume bar in your App appears to be linear. From left position to 1/4 is a huge step in volume compared with the step from 3/4 to right position of the volume bar: one can barely hear the difference in the latter case.
Hi, I can see that TTL is on the latest version, thanks.
But I have another request, can we please have streaming port option? RTSP default port is 554, can we please have option to let us select which port to go for?
I had a closer look at the error message: the targetsystem cannot find the title as f.i. the single quote is removed from the requested title. Example: Je t'attends.mp3 becomes Je tattends.mp3 and of course that title cannot be found.
Hey Pablo, I just installed the Pro version on my Toshiba Thrive tablet and everything works like its supposed to, however when I stream video from my PC to my tablet the quality looks terrible. Can you suggest something I can do in the video settings to improve the video quality? Thank you!
Hey Pablo, not sure if you just didn't see my question above or don't have an answer for me. "I just installed the Pro version on my Toshiba Thrive tablet and everything works like its supposed to, however when I stream video from my PC to my tablet the quality looks terrible. Can you suggest something I can do in the video settings to improve the video quality?"
Hi, the parameters that can make a change in video quality are: Video Width, Video Height, Frames per second, and video bitrate. For all of them, the higher the value, the higher the quality, and the higher the bandwidth requirements. regards!
I'm running the app on a droid x2. When I use the internal player, I can't get the video controls to go away. If I tap the screen they disappear for a second but then come back. They are in the way of the viewing area. Any suggestions?
This is strange... I can't reproduce your problem. Anyway I am trying a possible fix for your problem, and including it in the next version (v5.5) which will available in about a week from now. Let me know if it works. (I can not reproduce your problem, so I am not sure if it will work, sorry)
Bummer. I tried out the new version and I have the same problem. Its like the default is for the controls to be shown, instead of the other way around.
ok, bad luck, so when the buffeing ends, the controls dont hide, and if you tap on the screen nothing happens, am i right? This is a little difficult to fix because I cant reproduce the problem. Does you phone have a modified firmware? If you are interested in fixing it, I can make some modified apks, so you can test them in your device. Just send me an email to pablobesada@gmail.com.
Hey Pablo. Great app for the most part. I've only had one issue watching certain videos on my Acer Iconia tablet. Some videos play great picture, but no audio when I use the internal player. When I switch to the external player, I get the audio, but the video is terrible. Any suggestions?
Hi, It is strange.... It would be really useful if you can send me (or upload somewhere), one of the videos that are causing your problems, so I can do some tests with it. Thanks!
This program is awesome... But, and yes ofcourse there is a but.. Its really needs a panel that allows you to get through a dvd menu. I really cant believe that the option is not there cause it totaly ruins the idea of a remote.. But for avi, mpeg and any other media files it works like a charm.. I cant wait till an update to fix this issue will appear..
Streaming from pc to phone does'nt work, just work audio , i bought it but i cannot use it so far, please help, luisangelsabril@yahoo.com - android 2.3 mt6515 dual sim htc hd7 style
I have Samsung Galaxy Pad 10.1 with OS 3.1 and VLC 1.1.11 I can navigate from the Pad to the files, Video, Audio (MP3) or JPG photos, I can see them, I can start them, no errors from VLC, but nothing shows, and no sound. I have tried 2 different Macs, Mini and MacBook Pro, I disabled Firewall to see if it makes a difference, it didn't. I tried changing the port on the Tab side to 1234 or 4444 or 80 [but no changes on the Mac side], which didn't work, Mac side needs a change too?
When I said "I can see them" I mean I can see the files in the directory from the Tab, but I never get the Video to show at all, nor Audio. I see the message "Buffering Video..." after pressing to play, but nothing shows, and no error messages ever show up either.
Hi Roberto, it seems like you are doing everything ok. please send an email to qdevplus@gmail.com with your device model: Galaxy Tab 10.1(SHW-M380K) Galaxy Tab 10.1(SHW-M380S) Galaxy Tab 10.1(SHW-M380W) Galaxy Tab 10.1(GT-P7310) Galaxy Tab 10.1(GT-P7300) Galaxy Tab 10.1(SHW-M300W) Galaxy Tab 10.1(p3) Galaxy Tab 10.1(SCH-I905) Galaxy Tab 10.1(GT-P7500)
did you try mp3 and mp4 files? did you try streaming from android to pc?
I have an HTC Desire and a rooted Nook Color. I can stream video from the PC (win7 Home) to the HTC fine. I can only stream audio to the Nook. With video, I see "buffering" but the green bar does not fill up. Then the screen goes black. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Hi, do you have sound with mp3? try checking avoid audio transcoding en menu->settings->streaming settings. That might fix the mkv audio problem. About mp4, it is strange... what is your device?
I check avoid audio transcoding and still no sound. I cant send you mp4 file cos its to big. I have many movies in mp4 (h264) and there no sound in noon of them.
ok, I can think of two options: 1. Something is wrong in the underlying streaming engine in your device 2. Something is wrong while streaming in VLC.
Lets do this. in VLC go to tools->messages, set level at 2, and start the streaming of a mp4 video from PC to phone. send me the output of the VLC log to qdevplus@gmail.com
I am having trouble getting streaming video to the phone. The audio plays fine but there is just a black screen with the ui on top. No video, only sound. This happens even when I seek to a new point. Is there a setting in VLC or in VLC direct that I am missing?
I am running a Droid 2 with custom gingerbread "liberty" ROM
same issue even at 320x240. I have also noticed that on some files (including some mp4 files), the audio plays but will stutter and lag.. not sure if this is a bandwidth issue.. i am connected to my wifi and get pretty good network transfer rates..
I am having problems with the audio. I'm not getting any. The picture streams beautifully on my Samsung Epic, but no audio. I have a quad core pc with Windows 7. A 2gig video card. I have adjusted to try and use the different bit rates under streaming settings with no result. I've tried different videos from mkvs to small avi's and I am getting the same results. What do you suggest I do next?
have an issue with VLC direct pro. I used to be able to stream videos from my server to my phone. i can watch videos on my phone just fine.
I stopped using it for 3 days and then now, when I try to play some videos, it just displays "Buffering" and doesn't show any video or play sound at all.
Any ideas how to fix? The server has not been restarted so i'm not sure what to check.
Thanks for the reply. Ok so I restarted the server itself then i turned off the firewall. It still does not work. gives me just black screen w/o audio. The play bar moves though, like it shows the mins and secs and it is synced to the VLC player.
It works if i'm connected to wifi but not on 3g or 4g. i'm using evo 3d btw.
Oh! OK, 3G/4G setup can be a little tricky because some carriers use to block rtsp patckets. Please send me an email to qdevplus@gmail.com and I will try to help with the setup.
I've got a Color Nook that I'm running Android CM7 on (with an N2A card).
VLC Direct Pro will connect and show my videos (all in mp4 format), but here's where I have problems: when I play with internal player, I get a black screen with controls, but no audio or video. When I use an external player (RockPlayer Lite), I can get video and audio, but the audio plays 10 seconds ahead of the video.
I've fiddled around with the settings, but haven't found anything that has worked yet...
Works fine to control VLC and play computer files on the phone (galaxy s, darky's rom), but I can't get it to play phone files on the computer - neither video nor audio (mp3). The streaming server notification appears for a few seconds, then disappears. If I try to telnet to the phone port 4444 during that few seconds, it connects, but then drops off. Any ideas?
Also, audio doesn't play on the phone on all videos
Hi, do you have both the PC and the device connected to the same router? maybe you have your device connected to a VPN? About the sound problem: Some mkv and ts videos needs "avoid audio transcoding" checked in menu->preferences->streaming preferences. cheers!
t works well on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 streaming movies in VOB format using a /n router... but it freezes after a few minutes, usually between 5 and 15. I use the standard parameters in the setup.
I have the same problem with my HTC Panache (Glacier).
Hi, this is really strange! Does VLC Media Player freezes too (can you see the timer advancing), or only VLC Direct? Do you have the last VLC Version (1.1.11)?
I use V1. 1.11. It crashes when the problem occurs it gives me a message saying it has crashed, and suggests I send a report to the developpers. On the tablet, it doesn't crash - it just stops advancing, showing the last image - I can go back in the program with the back button but it is not possible to resume the movie where it stopped.
I don't think that the problem is with the PC application because, when used on the PC alone, it plays the files without fault to the end.
The problem occurs with all the video types I have tried: VOB, MKV and AVI.
Hi JulesG, could you please try it again, and when it crashes send the report to developer and put "JulesG"? This will allow me receive the traceback of your problem and hoppely find a solution. Regards!
Hi, I just updated to the latest version of VLC Direct Pro yesterday and now I am unable to stream videos with VLC Media. Before the update everything worked okay. I tried the free version (VLV Direct) and that works perfectly. Any suggestions or help would be great. Thanks
Hi Larry, Yesteday was release version 6.5, and after receiving some user mails regarding issues with internal player in VLC Direct Pro, a new version was released (v6.6) fixing those issues. Can you please check if you have v6.5 or v6.6? regards
Hi Pablo, thanks for the quick reply. I checked and I am running version 6.5. I just checked again on the Android Market and see there is another update (ver 6.6) . I'll give it a try later today and let you know tomorrow if it works. Cheers
Looks like there was another updated version (ver 6.7). Installed this version and everything seems to work perfectly. I was able to stream my videos again. I have to say, I'm impressed how quickly the fixes were out. Good work!!!
Hello, Awesome app, working fine on my HTC Desire. But I got a problem with my tablet (Smartq T7). I only get the audio for 1 second, just after the buffering, the video still play fine then. Same issue with an mp3, only the first second is audible. It's an android 2.1. Any idea of where it could come from?
Hi Maxime, I am not familiar with Smartq T7 device, but it seems like a streaming engine problem. try checking this option: menu->settings->streaming settings->avoid audio transcoding.
Hi, thanks for the answer, I tried it and it doesn't change anything. I also tried several bitrates without any results. I got to keep the audio playing with rockplayer, but the video is slow and desynchronized. Plus audio flux doesn't seem to be stable.
Here is a new thing: In Rockplayer I'm able to switch betwen hardware decoding and software decoding methodes. Apparently my previous try was on software decoding, slow but with the sound. With the hardware decoding video's smooth but I loose the audio after the first second. Most likely does that mean that the device cannot decode the audio flux by itself? Then any idea of why I get the first second of any audio flux?
I bought the pro version and I'm trying to use it on a Galaxy Tab 10.1.
I can stream anything from the tablet to the computer. I can also stream mp3 files from the computer to the tablet. I can't however stream video fron the computer to the tablet.
I can browse the files and touch on it, the internal player start and say that it's buffering. Then nothing else happens. It stay at a black screen, the time counter actually indicate that the video is playing, but I get no sound nor video. Same thing to the external payer.
I'm trying to stream over my wi-fi network. I'm a 64 bits Ubuntu user so my VLC is running on Linux.
Hello all, I have exactly the same problem than Mr,T. But me I can't stream video at all, tablet to pc or pc to tablet. Just Music is fine in the both way. If I try to stream video, It start just the 2 first second and after I saw a black screen on my tablet. any help ? Windows 7 and Galaxy tab 10.1
Dear Pablo, I am having exactly the same problem what leloustic described before: I try to control VLC on my MAC and it is not able to stream media from my phone to the MAC. My impression is: VLC (on the Mac) tries to establish the connection to Android Port 4444 *before* the "VLC Direct" server part is active. When I tap the same title twice within a few seconds, I get an error for the first attempt, but the VLC successfully starts on the second attempt. Regards Silvan Perego
I have bought the Pro version in order to be able to use it with subtitles. At the beginning everything was fine but since the last update, the subtitles do not show properly. I use Greek subtitles. I searched for an option to configure the encoding, but it doesn't exist. Any ideas how to fix it?
Hi Tocquesne, It is strange... nothing regarding subtitles have been change in the last version. Could you please send me an email to qdevplus @ gmail.com? I will try to help you. Thanks!
i just updated my pro version it and i cant see the videos any more, only hear the audio. using an external player is fine but then i cant fastforward samsung galaxy tab 10.1
I am having problems changing files. I can start a video but if i want to watch or listen to something else i have to restart vlc on my computer. makes the remote fairly pointless. Mac and Galaxy Tab
Hi Trooper, Does it happens EVERY TIME you changes files? or sometimes? What video format are you streaming? Are you using the last vlc version (1.1.11)? Regards.
is the dowload free? .. where ca i download for my android 2.2 ............................................................tablet? ...................................................tnx
Hi, Pablo. Thanks for this awesome app. Here's a question: Can I stream content to my phone while on different networks? For example, if my videos are on my home network and I'm on my phone at school using the school's wifi network. Is this possible, and where can I find info/tutorial on how to do this? THANKS!!
I am not able to play an iso file from my desktop on my tablet. The file loads fine and I can see the remaing time, but the screen stays black. Please help. I have vlc direct pro. Please help Pablo.
Ok, them your iso file might not be supported. I you can updaload the iso file somewhere so I can doownload it, I can try to make the app support the file. Please send me an email to
I installed the pro version and launched vlc media web interface. The connection seems correct since I have access to the movie directory off my PC from the tablet (which is a ''Le Pan''). The movie begins to buffering then nothing else than a black screen (and no sound) even if the timelines on both machines are going on. What's happening and how can I fix that? Any ideas welcome.
Hi Fafou, I don't know much about your device, but maybe the problem is the video your are trying to stream. Can you stream from android to PC? could you try streaming a mp3 song to android? does it work? and what about a mp4 video? please send me an email to qdevplus @ gmail. com so we can do some tests.
Saludos
Hi - I am trying to get this to work, but can't quite get it. I am running Windows 7 x64, VLC 1.1.11, and CM7 on my Kindle Fire. I have also tried it with my Droid 3.
I can browse media just fine on my Android devices, but cannot successfully play anything on the devices. When I select it, the videos try to queue on the Android, but on the PC I get a notice that "vlc.exe has stopped working". I then have to force close the program.
Hi tenXring, The mkv file your are trying to stream might have multiple audio tracks. VLC can't stream those files properly. You can check that, playing the file locally in your pc vlc, and while the video is playing, go to tools->codec information.
Hello and thank you so much for this great app. I'm using it on my new Blackberry Playbook Tablet as a .bar file. The only problem I have so far is that I cannot stream any video or MP3 on my Playbook from files stored on my PC. When I start a stream, the buffer starts but nothing happens and the screen stays black but something is streaming since the time is playing. I port forwarded all ports from 1024 to 65535 and even tried disabling my Windows firewall but nothing changes. I can only stream successfuly from my Playbook to my PC, that works great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Fern, I am afraid streaming from pc to android won't work in playbook, it hasn't been adapted to playbook yet, and the streaming engine of playbook is different from android.
Thanks for your response. In fact, I installed OS 2.0 Beta in my playbook (Developper Mode) so I have the android player installed on my playbook. I really tought this could work well since a developper created a .bar file from the android app (tested and worked on Playbook) for your VLC Direct Pro app. Like I said, the streaming is happening, the time is moving but the screen stays black. I tried with the external player too, at first buffer works but after 2 seconds a message says it cannot play the video. I think I'm so close to get this working... Thanks again and if you think of anything else for me to try, I will be right here. Bye.
Hi Fern, I wish I could help you with this... I will try to find a Playbook and do some tests, but I don't have much hope with this... the streaming engine is part of the android OS, not part of VLC Direct. That's why, in some android devices VLC Direct can't stream: because the streaming engine doesn't work properly in those devices (mostly cheap android devices). Another case where the streaming engine doesn't work is in the android emulator for PC. Anyway, if I can grab a Playbook, I will give it a shoot. Cheers!
Hello, just bought Direct Pro. It works great on my HTC Evo3D over my wireless network at home. However, try as I might, I cannot figure out how to access my pc files over a 3g network. I don't understand what I have to config or what I have to do to connect. Can I get a little direction to help me out please? Thanks.
Works well from phone to pc and as control for pc can start stood and all fine from phone but movies act like they play on phone but no video or sound. And when I play mp3 from computer to phone works for a sing or two but then seems to crash
Hi, What is your device? do you have the last VLC version (1.1.11)? please check out this link: http://vlcdirect.blogspot.com/2012/01/streaming-from-pcmac-to-android-not.html
I have a vtab 1008 running android 2.3. Like many others, I can control VLC, but I can't stream to my tablet. The VLC player is displaying from capture device (webcam) and I need this to stream to the tablet. This is a Wi-Fi only device. Any ideas? I am running the Pro version of your app.
Hi Thorfinn, at the moment VLC Direct doesn't support streaming from the pc camera. But you should be able to stream from a video file stored in you PC.
Hi, At the moment, VLC Direct can play as standlone only android supported video formats (mp4, 3gp, avi sometimes.). When it is connected to VLC Media Player in PC it can play almost any format through its streaming capabilities. I recommend you Mobo Player or vPlayer is your want to play videos locally (i.e. from your sdcard). Both players support multiple formats and have free versions.
I bought de pro version to use in my transformer prime tablet, but I'm having a problem. I can stream audio files with no trouble, but when I try to stream video files there is no image or sound. There is no error message and the hard drive on my PC seems to be reading the file. On the tablet, vlc direct also seems to be receiving the stream (the clock keeps running), but, as I said, there is no image or sound. This happens with all video formats I try. I'm using win7 64 and vlc player 1.1.11.
Hi fraap, please check out this link http://vlcdirect.blogspot.com/2012/01/streaming-from-pcmac-to-android-not.html if it doesn't help, please send me an email to qdevplus@gmail.com so we can talk about our problem in more detail
Great app, it works great on my Transformer, but I see a little room for improvements, especially in the UI department. - in the music tab - it's annoying that the search field gets auto focused because then the on-screen keyboard covers most of the list (maybe an option to enable/disable auto-focus?) - a refresh button for the remote file list would we useful I guess - the UI is not optimized in any way for tablets - even on the phone, the UI is not the greatest looking - the icons and the buttons look like they are from different sets, the tabs don't look native (maybe you could try some ICS style tabs), it needs more padding in some places (taget icon, only media files icon, favorites icon, up dir icon, search field), the textured lists looks kinda iffy (should have gone with default android lists), the bookmarks dialog doesn't look like anything Android. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I've done a lot of design and this stuff just pokes me in the eye. It's intended as constructive criticism. Your app is awesome.
If I have a little time, maybe I'll draw a mock-up.
| video 1 playing |[file1.mpg] | video 1 playing |[file2.avi] | video 1 playing |[file3.flv]
A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a series of still images on a strip of plastic which, when run through a projector and shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images
Hi Great app thanks! I use the free version to stream music on phone(Nexus 4) to PC which connects to the main speakers. It would be fantastic if you could add the following features: Add music tracks on the device to playlist. Right now even if I long tap tracks on the device in Tab#2 it does not queue. Second could you add options for loop/continuous/single track playback? Not sure if these are already requested. Please consider. Thanks again!
I have the same problem with the internal player that Aric had. The video seems to be playing fine, but the video progress/time/seek bar and those big green pause and next/previous buttons don't go away.
Great except for the audio lag. On samsung galaxy s linked to a windows 7.
ReplyDeleteHi Jay, audio problems usually means your PC/Mac is not fast enough to transcode "on the fly" the video and audio tracks. Try a .mp4 file (less transcoding requirements) or a PC with a faster processor. I hope this help!
ReplyDeleteHi, great app. I bought it. I have a question. Is it posible enable streaming from pc to android over http (or other type), because most of routers have problems with rtsp over nat and it is not possible streaming over net, only in home intranet. Any response please direct to my email vlc@alien21.com. thanks
ReplyDeleteHi, I bought the app and it works fine for controlling the VLC server running on my PC, but when I press the Android button in the top left, it doesn't do anything at all.
ReplyDeleteHi, did you try tapping on a video in "files" tab when the "android" icon is active?
ReplyDeleteYup, nothing. I'm using an asus eee transformer tablet if that makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteSorry what i mean isthat VLC in my PC plays the video, but no output to my device.
ReplyDeleteiam having the same problem... when i browse the files on PC folder running W7 with my android (Lg P500h) all the video files apear with 2 extensions (the movie extension and a .WLX - ex: .MPG.WLX) When i start the movie, he say "play not started". But i can control the movie on PC as well, play, stop, fullscreen...
ReplyDeleteVLC Direct uses file extension to identify file format. If the filename ends with .WLX, VLC Direct wont be able to set the streaming parameters correctly.
ReplyDeleteBut the file format is correct on PC.... on VLC player all files show this .WLX extension.
ReplyDeleteWell, that is really strange... when you browse files in your VLC Media Player (not VLC Direct), you see all files with the .WLX extension appended to file filename? It seems your VLC Media Player is not working correctly
ReplyDeleteAre you sure your windows is not hiding your file name extensions, so you dont see the .WLX in Windows Explorer?
ReplyDeleteYou can check this following this tutorial:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Show-or-hide-file-name-extensions
tried for days to get it to stream over 4g, it will browse all files but will not buffer past 0%
ReplyDeletekinda choked as its selling features include remote access.
works on wifi, but not 4g - even if connected to different VPNs
suggestions? alexruys@gmail.com
also: not a router issue, tried streaming direct from modem.
ReplyDeleteit will connect and i can browse files but wont load at all.
Hi, If you can browse files your connection between VLC Direct and VLC Media Player is ok. VLC Direct uses RTSP protocol which sometimes uses random udp ports for the video and audio channels. Try forwarding all ports from 1024 to 65535 in your router.
ReplyDeletePlease note that some carries block a lot of ports and only open specific ports(smtp, pop, web, etc.).
ReplyDeleteHi Ryan
ReplyDeletewith vlc media player web interface enabled try to enter to the following address from your pc web browser:
1. http://127.0.0.1:8080
then find your pc ip address (start->run->ipconfig) then try:
2. http://your.mac.ip.address:8080/requests/status.xml
and from your device browser:
3. http://your.mac.ip.address:8080/requests/status.xml
if any of those tests doesnt show a response, it means there is something wrong (maybe a firewall in your pc is blocking the connection), and VLC Direct be able to connect to VLC
Mine connects fine, as i say i can view the video correctly from the Android to the PC just not the other way around. I'm not using a mobile network at all, just my home wifi.
ReplyDeleteHi, I have seen some asus eee transformer with problems regarding its underlying streaming engine. If this is your problem, I have no solution yet. if this is not your problem, you can try disabling your pc firewall
ReplyDeleteHi, quick question.
ReplyDeleteI am tring VLC direct.
Successfully installed and can access to VLC on my pc.
I can remotely control vlc on pc from vlc direct on android but can not see the streaming from pc to android.
I am using;
VLC 1.1.3 on win7/64
Android 3.1 on Galaxy tab 10.1
Are there any issue on Android 3.1?
Hi,
ReplyDeleteAndroid 3.1 works just fine.
If your have your device using wifi and connected to the same router as the pc, then try disabling your pc firewall to see if it is blocking the streaming packets.
Hi, I am a registered user, nice work there!
ReplyDeleteI have a feature request, can we please have a extra option box to add custom streaming options we can add (maybe called advance feature?) since I would like to tweak the streaming commands to VLC and tweak like TTL or other options.
Another tiny request is can we please have debug option like a log or a UI to "see" what actual VLC command is sent to VLC client so that we can debug (it is very hard to do that now)
Thanks!!
birdie4027,
ReplyDeleteI have the same exact setup and I am experiencing the same problem. Would you mind sharing your software versions?
Model number: GT-P7510
Android Version: 3.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3 se.infra@sep-58 #1
Build number HMJ37.UEKF3 P7510UEKF3
My computer -> htc incredible 2.2 streaming is working perfectly fine (just not the GT10.1).
Any others experiencing this issue of being able to see the files but no video and audio when play begins?
utp, TTL option will be available in future versions. About the log, you can view the exact command sent to VLC Media Player in the VLC Media Player itself: tools->messages (with detail level at 2). If you need any other setting, please let me know.
ReplyDeletehey, I purchased VLC Direct Pro and it streams fine with video and audio to my HTC Evo. When I try to stream to my android tablet, I can only hear sound and there is NO video. any ideas?
ReplyDeletewhich tablet/android version do you have?
ReplyDeleteI have the notion ink Adam, android version 2.2
ReplyDeleteHi Davis, sorry, I dont have a tablet like yours to check if it is a VLC Direct issue. Can you send me the VLC Media Player log? (tools->messages, set detail level at 2) So I can check if your VLC Media Player is having problems transcoding your video. pablobesada@gmail.com
ReplyDeletePablo, I just tried it on a Motorola Xoom 3.1 and it worked fine. So...
ReplyDeleteHTC Incredible 2.2 = Good
Motorola Xoom Tab 3.1 = Good
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wifi) 3.1 = No Stream
Must be something with the samsung tab?
Is there any way for me to turn on logging for the samsung?
Hello Pablo
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering if anyone else has come to you regarding streaming on the HTC Sensation? I seem to be getting a very jerky video that doesn't play smooth at all. It works fine on a HTC Incredible and my sisters HTC Desire HD.
I assume its just a bug with the new type of hardware the phone has or the new Sense UI 3.0 as no matter what option I use regarding bitrate or anything else makes it any better.
Hello Hoochie Mamma, I assume you are trying to stream from pc to android. Try with a smaller video size like 800x480, to see it if works better.
ReplyDeleteleloustic, what I see from the log you sent me, your VLC Media Player is not being able to connect to the phone. It is trying to connect to 192.168.0.15. Please check if this is your phone's ip address by pinging it from your Mac. If can know your phone's ip address SwiFTP FTP Server application.
ReplyDeleteHi Pablo, thank you for your great work.

Sorry for double post!
ReplyDeleteHi Pablo, in fact, Swiftftp says that my phone's ip adress is 192.168.0.15
ReplyDeleteI can connect with an FTP app from my mac to the phone.
ok, and when you start a streaming from android to mac, the VLC icon appears in the phone's notification bar?
ReplyDeletewhile the icon is in the notification bar -the streaming server is listening for connections-, try doing a telnet to 192.168.0.15, port 4444 and see if the connection by telnet can be established.
No, there is no VLC icon in the notification bar...
ReplyDeleteWith target set as "VLC", when you tap on a video in "my videos" tab, a VLC Icon saying "Stream Server Running", should appear in your android notification bar.
ReplyDeleteOk, the VLC icon appears but just 2 or 3 seconds and disapears, too short to try a telnet
ReplyDeleteI'v tried, here's the message : telnet: connect to address 192.168.0.15: Connection refused
ReplyDeletetelnet: Unable to connect to remote host
Yes I know, it expects to receive a connection from VLC Media Player within a few seconds (about 4), if the connection doesnt enter, it stops the streaming server to save battery.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteyou did the telnet to port 4444?
ReplyDeleteI've managed to play a few music tracks and 2 videos. The video lags (I've tried divx, 3gp, mp4 files, just the .avi works, but lags) and only few music tracks work...
ReplyDeleteYou are always streaming from android to pc, dont you?
ReplyDeleteIts strange, it seems like yo have some kind of network instability problem. Please note that if the videos are HD (720p or 1080p), you will have to have a really network speed to avoid any lagging during streaming. Standard videos should work just fine.
Yes, I'm streaming from android to pc. it works better with standard videos. I will check my network, because for the music files, they should work.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your help, I'll give you some feedback soon!
leloustic
yes, mp3 files should work without any lag
ReplyDeleteHey have you considered adding a sinker screen for just controlling a movie already playing? Something with bigger buttons? An streaming/advanced mode and a controler mode would be great.
ReplyDeleteAlso I have managed to do everything over 4g connection accept stream to my phone from my computer. VLC gives a really long error when I try it. Any suggestions?
I will consider it. Thanks for the suggestion.
ReplyDeleteAbout the 4G, can you send me the vlc media player log? (tools->messages, set detail level at 2)
pablobesada@gmail.com
Hi Pablo,
ReplyDeleteTitles of mp3 songs sometimes contain a single quote, ' , like in " I'll be back , Beatles"', or an Ă« , f.i. in french songs. Or an exclamation mark ( ! ), also in a Beatles-song
This causes an error on the targetsystem (running VLC), whether it's WindowsXPHome_sp3 NTFS filesystem or Puppy Linux Wary 5.12 with ext2 file system.
I like this app :-)
cheers
Hi, I can see that TTL is on the latest version, thanks.
ReplyDeleteBut I have another request, can we please have streaming port option? RTSP default port is 554, can we please have option to let us select which port to go for?
Thanks.
Plons, Thank you for the feedback I will try to reproduce and fix the problem.
ReplyDeleteHi utp, yes, PORT setting will be available in the next version.
ReplyDeleteThanks for looking into it, Pablo.
ReplyDeleteI had a closer look at the error message: the targetsystem cannot find the title as f.i. the single quote is removed from the requested title.
Example: Je t'attends.mp3 becomes Je tattends.mp3
and of course that title cannot be found.
Cool, thank you. I will try to fix this today.
ReplyDeleteHey Pablo,
ReplyDeleteI just installed the Pro version on my Toshiba Thrive tablet and everything works like its supposed to, however when I stream video from my PC to my tablet the quality looks terrible. Can you suggest something I can do in the video settings to improve the video quality?
Thank you!
Pablo, oh man, you are just GREAT, the best $$ I ever spend on a software, feature request fulfilled in what? few hours?
ReplyDeleteTo anyone who is not yet a register, I faithfully suggest you do it now!
:)
Thank you :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Pablo for fixing that single quote issue in the filename. It works fine now.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome.
ReplyDeleteHey Pablo, not sure if you just didn't see my question above or don't have an answer for me.
ReplyDelete"I just installed the Pro version on my Toshiba Thrive tablet and everything works like its supposed to, however when I stream video from my PC to my tablet the quality looks terrible. Can you suggest something I can do in the video settings to improve the video quality?"
Hi, the parameters that can make a change in video quality are:
ReplyDeleteVideo Width, Video Height, Frames per second, and video bitrate.
For all of them, the higher the value, the higher the quality, and the higher the bandwidth requirements. regards!
doesn't work on Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1, suggestions?? Does not start buffering.
ReplyDeleteSome GT v10.1 are having problems in their underlying streaming client engine. I am working on a workaround for VLC Direct; with no lucky yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm running the app on a droid x2. When I use the internal player, I can't get the video controls to go away. If I tap the screen they disappear for a second but then come back. They are in the way of the viewing area. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteThis is strange... I can't reproduce your problem.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I am trying a possible fix for your problem, and including it in the next version (v5.5) which will available in about a week from now. Let me know if it works. (I can not reproduce your problem, so I am not sure if it will work, sorry)
Bummer. I tried out the new version and I have the same problem. Its like the default is for the controls to be shown, instead of the other way around.
ReplyDeleteok, bad luck, so when the buffeing ends, the controls dont hide, and if you tap on the screen nothing happens, am i right?
ReplyDeleteThis is a little difficult to fix because I cant reproduce the problem. Does you phone have a modified firmware?
If you are interested in fixing it, I can make some modified apks, so you can test them in your device. Just send me an email to pablobesada@gmail.com.
This app works with Android phone bluetooth also, no need network & router.
ReplyDeletehi,guys ! i dön know how 2 use clv at all.can u help me ?
ReplyDeleteHi Lupin, please follow the configuration tutorial and let me know if you get stuck in any step:
ReplyDeletehttp://vlcdirect.blogspot.com/2011/05/vlc-direct-manual-de-configuracion.html
Hey Pablo. Great app for the most part. I've only had one issue watching certain videos on my Acer Iconia tablet. Some videos play great picture, but no audio when I use the internal player. When I switch to the external player, I get the audio, but the video is terrible. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteHi, It is strange.... It would be really useful if you can send me (or upload somewhere), one of the videos that are causing your problems, so I can do some tests with it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis program is awesome...
ReplyDeleteStreaming from pc to phone does'nt work, just work audio , i bought it but i cannot use it so far, please help, luisangelsabril@yahoo.com - android 2.3 mt6515 dual sim htc hd7 style
ReplyDeleteHi please send me an email to qdevplus@gmail.com, so we can check some settings. Did you try with a mp4 file?
ReplyDeleteI have Samsung Galaxy Pad 10.1 with OS 3.1 and VLC 1.1.11
ReplyDeleteI can navigate from the Pad to the files, Video, Audio (MP3) or JPG photos, I can see them, I can start them, no errors from VLC, but nothing shows, and no sound.
ReplyDeleteI see the message "Buffering Video..." after pressing to play, but nothing shows, and no error messages ever show up either.
Hi Roberto, it seems like you are doing everything ok.
ReplyDeleteplease send an email to qdevplus@gmail.com with your device model:
Galaxy Tab 10.1(SHW-M380K)
Galaxy Tab 10.1(SHW-M380S)
Galaxy Tab 10.1(SHW-M380W)

Galaxy Tab 10.1(p3)
Galaxy Tab 10.1(SCH-I905)
Galaxy Tab 10.1(GT-P7500)
did you try mp3 and mp4 files?
did you try streaming from android to pc?
I have an HTC Desire and a rooted Nook Color. I can stream video from the PC (win7 Home) to the HTC fine. I can only stream audio to the Nook. With video, I see "buffering" but the green bar does not fill up. Then the screen goes black. Any suggestions? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi. No sound in mkv and mp4. Why?
ReplyDeleteHi, do you have sound with mp3?
ReplyDeletetry checking avoid audio transcoding en menu->settings->streaming settings. That might fix the mkv audio problem. About mp4, it is strange... what is your device?
Yes i have sound in mp3 and avi file. My device is samsung galaxy i5800
ReplyDeleteok, "avoid audio transcondig" will probably fix the mkv sound problem.
ReplyDeleteAbout the mp4, can you send me the file so I can check it? (qdevplus@gmail.com)
I check avoid audio transcoding and still no sound. I cant send you mp4 file cos its to big. I have many movies in mp4 (h264) and there no sound in noon of them.
ReplyDeletewhat is your device? It seems like there is a problem with the device streaming engine
ReplyDeleteWindows 7 64bit
ReplyDeleteSamsung galaxy i5800 froyo
try setting external player (menu->settings->player)
ReplyDeleteI try and still no sound
ReplyDeleteok, I can think of two options:
ReplyDelete1. Something is wrong in the underlying streaming engine in your device
2. Something is wrong while streaming in VLC.
Lets do this. in VLC go to tools->messages, set level at 2, and start the streaming of a mp4 video from PC to phone. send me the output of the VLC log to qdevplus@gmail.com
be the way, what VLC version do you have?
I send you log file. By the way i change audio strem bitrate and ther is sound in mkv. But mp4 its still offsound
ReplyDeleteHi Pablo,
ReplyDeleteI am having trouble getting streaming video to the phone. The audio plays fine but there is just a black screen with the ui on top. No video, only sound. This happens even when I seek to a new point. Is there a setting in VLC or in VLC direct that I am missing?
I am running a Droid 2 with custom gingerbread "liberty" ROM
Thanks!
Hi,
ReplyDeletetry decreasing video bitrate en menu->settings->streaming settings.
I tried that.. even at the lowest possible bitrate there is no video, only sound =(
ReplyDeleteHi, that's strange.
ReplyDeletetry with a mp4 video, and reducing the video size to 320x240
same issue even at 320x240. I have also noticed that on some files (including some mp4 files), the audio plays but will stutter and lag.. not sure if this is a bandwidth issue.. i am connected to my wifi and get pretty good network transfer rates..
ReplyDeleteI was finally able to start streaming with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wifi Only - Ver 3.1) in the 6.3 release. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that! cheers!
ReplyDeleteI am having problems with the audio.
ReplyDeleteI am getting sound on some vids just not the mkvs now.
ReplyDeleteHi, for mkv, there is an option to "avoid audio transcoding" that might get sound working. The option is in menu->settings->streaming settings
ReplyDeletehi,
ReplyDeletehave an issue with VLC direct pro.
Hi, first try restarting VLC Media Player, if this doesn't work, then your firewall might be blocking the connection, try disabling it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply. Ok so I restarted the server itself then i turned off the firewall. It still does not work. gives me just black screen w/o audio. The play bar moves though, like it shows the mins and secs and it is synced to the VLC player.
ReplyDeleteIt works if i'm connected to wifi but not on 3g or 4g. i'm using evo 3d btw.
thanks!
Oh! OK, 3G/4G setup can be a little tricky because some carriers use to block rtsp patckets. Please send me an email to qdevplus@gmail.com and I will try to help with the setup.
ReplyDeletee-mail sent. thank you!
ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI've got a Color Nook that I'm running Android CM7 on (with an N2A card).
Hi Jerry, Can you stream mp3 files? Are you trying with the last VLC version (1.1.11)?
ReplyDeleteI can stream mp3 files. I downloaded app on Friday, so it should be current.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being so helpful!
Jerry
Hi Jerry, can you send me an email to qdevplus@gmail.com? So we can continue the tests by mail? regards
ReplyDeleteWorks fine to control VLC and play computer files on the phone (galaxy s, darky's rom), but I can't get it to play phone files on the computer - neither video nor audio (mp3). The streaming server notification appears for a few seconds, then disappears. If I try to telnet to the phone port 4444 during that few seconds, it connects, but then drops off. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteAlso, audio doesn't play on the phone on all videos
Hi, do you have both the PC and the device connected to the same router? maybe you have your device connected to a VPN?
ReplyDeleteAbout the sound problem: Some mkv and ts videos needs "avoid audio transcoding" checked in menu->preferences->streaming preferences. cheers!
t works well on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 streaming movies in VOB format using a /n router... but it freezes after a few minutes, usually between 5 and 15. I use the standard parameters in the setup.
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with my HTC Panache (Glacier).
Any suggestions to fix this?
Hi, this is really strange! Does VLC Media Player freezes too (can you see the timer advancing), or only VLC Direct? Do you have the last VLC Version (1.1.11)?
ReplyDeleteCant control subtitles?
ReplyDeleteHi VaL, you can enable and disable subtitles in menu->settings.
ReplyDeleteWhat else would do you like to control?
Thanks for your concern Pablo.
ReplyDeleteI use V1.
Any suggestions to fix this?
Hi JulesG, could you please try it again, and when it crashes send the report to developer and put "JulesG"? This will allow me receive the traceback of your problem and hoppely find a solution. Regards!
ReplyDeletehello, I bought it, but all the streams from pc to the phone are with an audio/video delay, how do I fix this?
ReplyDeleteHi Carlos, please send me a private mail to qdevplus @ gmail .com
ReplyDeleteI believe we can solve your problem.
Hi. I love this app. I can play individual music tracks but I can't work out how to play a whole album. Is this possible? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Stu, it is not possible yet. We are working on that. cheers!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI just updated to the latest version of VLC Direct Pro yesterday and now I am unable to stream videos with VLC Media.
Can you please check if you have v6.5 or v6.6? regards
ReplyDeleteHi Pablo, thanks for the quick reply. I checked and I am running version 6.5. I just checked again on the Android Market and see there is another update (ver 6.6) . I'll give it a try later today and let you know tomorrow if it works.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Cool, let me know if you have any problem with v6.6.
ReplyDeleteLooks like there was another updated version (ver 6.7). Installed this version and everything seems to work perfectly. I was able to stream my videos again. I have to say, I'm impressed how quickly the fixes were out. Good work!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Larry, your feedback was really helpful.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteAwesome app, working fine on my HTC Desire.
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for the answer,
ReplyDeleteI tried it and it doesn't change anything.
ReplyDeleteHi.
ReplyDeleteI bought the pro version and I'm trying to use it on a Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Maxime and Mr T., please send me an Email to
ReplyDeleteqdevplus @ gmail . com
thanks!
Hello all,
ReplyDeleteI have exactly the same problem than Mr,T. But me I can't stream video at all, tablet to pc or pc to tablet. Just Music is fine in the both way.
If I try to stream video, It start just the 2 first second and after I saw a black screen on my tablet.
any help ?

Hi neobyann,
ReplyDeleteWhat is your GT 10.1 model?
please send me an email to

thanks!
Dear Pablo,
ReplyDeleteI am having exactly the same problem what leloustic described before: I try to control VLC on my MAC and it is not able to stream media from my phone to the MAC.
My impression is: VLC (on the Mac) tries to establish the connection to Android Port 4444 *before* the "VLC Direct" server part is active.
When I tap the same title twice within a few seconds, I get an error for the first attempt, but the VLC successfully starts on the second attempt.
Regards
Silvan Perego
Hi Silvan, well that makes sense. I will investigate the matter. Thanks for the feedback.
ReplyDeleteHello all,
ReplyDeleteI have bought the Pro version in order to be able to use it with subtitles. At the beginning everything was fine but since the last update, the subtitles do not show properly. I use Greek subtitles. I searched for an option to configure the encoding, but it doesn't exist. Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks
Hi Tocquesne, It is strange... nothing regarding subtitles have been change in the last version.
ReplyDeleteCould you please send me an email to
qdevplus @ gmail.com?

ReplyDeleteMac and Galaxy Tab
Hi Trooper,
ReplyDeleteDoes it happens EVERY TIME you changes files? or sometimes?
What video format are you streaming?
Are you using the last vlc version (1.1.11)?
Regards.

Hi, Pablo. Thanks for this awesome app. Here's a question: Can I stream content to my phone while on different networks? For example, if my videos are on my home network and I'm on my phone at school using the school's wifi network. Is this possible, and where can I find info/tutorial on how to do this? THANKS!!
ReplyDeleteHi tommy, please send me an email to
ReplyDeleteQdevplus @ gmail.com
And I will guide with the remote connection.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI am not able to play an iso file from my desktop on my tablet. The file loads fine and I can see the remaing time, but the screen stays black. Please help. I have vlc direct pro. Please help Pablo.
Hi jquinones, not all iso files are supported. Can you stream mp3, mp4 and avi?
ReplyDeleteYes I can. I was looking to stream some iso's. The app sees the file and plats it. There is just no image displayed.
ReplyDeleteOk, them your iso file might not be supported. I you can updaload the iso file somewhere so I can doownload it, I can try to make the app support the file. Please send me an email to
ReplyDeleteqdevplus @ gmail. com
ReplyDeleteHi Fafou, I don't know much about your device, but maybe the problem is the video your are trying to stream. Can you stream from android to PC? could you try streaming a mp3 song to android? does it work? and what about a mp4 video?
ReplyDeleteplease send me an email to
qdevplus @ gmail. com
so we can do some tests.

Saludos
Vale, perfecto. Gracias por todo, un saludo
ReplyDeleteHey, I purchased the pro version for my whole family..
ReplyDelete.srt subtitles works just fine, but the .idx+.sub doesn't start. Is this a limitation?
Hola Pablo he comprado la versión pro pero me dice que no encuentra la interfaz web VLC el teléfono es un Sony Ericsson Xperia. Muchas gracias.
ReplyDeleteHola Antonio,

Hi -
ReplyDeleteI am trying to get this to work, but can't quite get it.
Any ideas?
no audio on mkv. Did the setttings avoid transcoding... only audio on mp4 and avi. still no audio on mkv.
ReplyDeleteMotorola Electrify
us cellular
The formats that do work have really nice crisp video/audio
Hi tenXring, The mkv file your are trying to stream might have multiple audio tracks. VLC can't stream those files properly. You can check that, playing the file locally in your pc vlc, and while the video is playing, go to tools->codec information.
ReplyDeleteHello and thank you so much for this great app.
ReplyDeleteI'm using it on my new Blackberry Playbook Tablet as a .bar file.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response. In fact, I installed
ReplyDeleteOS 2.0 Beta in my playbook (Developper Mode) so I have the android player installed on my playbook. Bye.
Hi Fern,
ReplyDeleteI wish I could help you with this...
Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'm having the same 3/4g connection issue as Rio. Cannot figure out how to config wireless network streaming.
ReplyDeleteHi Rio42 and PblzZ423, please send me an email to qdevplus@gmail.com, so I can help you both. Thanks!

Works well from phone to pc and as control for pc can start stood and all fine from phone but movies act like they play on phone but no video or sound. And when I play mp3 from computer to phone works for a sing or two but then seems to crash

DeleteHi, What is your device? do you have the last VLC version (1.1.11)?
ReplyDeleteplease check out this link: http://vlcdirect.blogspot.com/2012/01/streaming-from-pcmac-to-android-not.html
thanks brother..
ReplyDeletei will try now..
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hi Thorfinn, at the moment VLC Direct doesn't support streaming from the pc camera. But you should be able to stream from a video file stored in you PC.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteHi, At the moment, VLC Direct can play as standlone only android supported video formats (mp4, 3gp, avi sometimes.).
DeleteWhen it is connected to VLC Media Player in PC it can play almost any format through its streaming capabilities.
I recommend you Mobo Player or vPlayer is your want to play videos locally (i.e. from your sdcard). Both players support multiple formats and have free versions.
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteI bought de pro version to use in my transformer prime tablet, but I'm having a problem.
Thanks!
Hi fraap,
Deleteplease check out this link
http://vlcdirect.blogspot.com/2012/01/streaming-from-pcmac-to-android-not.html
if it doesn't help, please send me an email to qdevplus@gmail.com so we can talk about our problem in more detail
Feature suggestions:
ReplyDeleteGreat app, it works great on my Transformer, but I see a little room for improvements, especially in the UI department.
- in the music tab - it's annoying that the search field gets auto focused because then the on-screen keyboard covers most of the list (maybe an option to enable/disable auto-focus?)
- a refresh button for the remote file list would we useful I guess
- the UI is not optimized in any way for tablets
- even on the phone, the UI is not the greatest looking - the icons and the buttons look like they are from different sets, the tabs don't look native (maybe you could try some ICS style tabs), it needs more padding in some places (taget icon, only media files icon, favorites icon, up dir icon, search field), the textured lists looks kinda iffy (should have gone with default android lists), the bookmarks dialog doesn't look like anything Android. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I've done a lot of design and this stuff just pokes me in the eye. It's intended as constructive criticism. Your app is awesome.
If I have a little time, maybe I'll draw a mock-up.
Hi, thank you very much for the feedback. Could you please send me a screenshot to qdevplus@gmail.com, so I can see how do you see it? thanks!
DeleteI've sent you an email with the mockup.
DeleteI received it. It's awesome! thanks a lot. I answered your mail.
DeletePablo,
Gracias!
DeleteHi, good app.
ReplyDeleteFEATURE REQUEST: Any chance of a button to skip forward/backward say 20, 30, or 60 seconds (user adjustable)?
Would love 5 second skips but buffering makes that impossible.
BUG REPORT: Also, when i start movies black screen, but the i hit Pause!? and it plays. Not a big deal as it then works, just weird.
OPERATING SPECS: VLC Direct Pro, VLC 1.1.11, HTC Desire, Froyo.
A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a series of still images on a strip of plastic which, when run through a projector and shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images

Hi
ReplyDeleteGreat app thanks! I use the free version to stream music on phone(Nexus 4) to PC which connects to the main speakers.
It would be fantastic if you could add the following features:
Add music tracks on the device to playlist. Right now even if I long tap tracks on the device in Tab#2 it does not queue. Second could you add options for loop/continuous/single track playback? Not sure if these are already requested. Please consider. Thanks again!
Hi, good suggestions. They will be considered
DeleteI have the same problem with the internal player that Aric had. The video seems to be playing fine, but the video progress/time/seek bar and those big green pause and next/previous buttons don't go away.
ReplyDeleteI'm using an android smartphone btw.
